Indore’s 100-Day Carbon Challenge: Reducing Emissions, Leading Change (Dec. 1, 2024 - Mar. 10, 2025)

A Joint Collaboration of Indore Municipal Corporation, Energy Swaraj Foundation, the People and Organizations of Indore  

The initiative aims to combat climate change through a dual approach of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting energy conservation in the cleanest city of India, Indore. Join the mission, take action & make a lasting positive impact on the environment.

About : Indore Climate Mission

Building on the city's success, the Indore Climate Mission (ICM) is a pioneering initiative of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) that aimed at addressing the urgent challenge of climate change through local, actionable steps. The mission also aspires to position Indore as a global leader in climate action by focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting energy conservation, and fostering sustainable daily practices among its citizens. Through widespread awareness campaigns and active community participation, ICM seeks to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Targets of the Mission

The Indore Climate Mission seeks to position Indore as a global leader in climate action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting energy conservation, and fostering sustainable daily practices among citizens. The core targets of the mission include:

Energy Literacy Training

Educating 300,000 to 500,000 citizens on the link between energy consumption and carbon emissions, promoting awareness on the environmental impact of fossil fuel use.

Reduce Electricity Consumption

Encouraging the adoption of sustainable habits such as reducing electricity and material use in daily life, aiming for a 7-10% reduction in city-wide electricity consumption.

Impacting Behavioral Change

7 Days - 7 Habits engaging multiple sectors, including educational institutions, businesses, government offices, and households, to participate actively in the mission, creating a climate-conscious community that prioritizes sustainability.

The mission will enroll and train around 500 to 1000 volunteers from various backgrounds, who will be instrumental in executing the mission’s activities and raising awareness​.

Energy Literacy Training (ELT)

The Energy Swaraj Foundation has designed a unique course to educate masses on use of energy and its impact on environment and climate change. A three-hour training session to educate individuals and organizations on energy use and its environmental impact, delivered both online and offline by the ELT committee

Reduce Electricity Consumption (REC)

 Organizing competitions across various sectors, such as schools, colleges, government offices, industries, and households, to reduce electricity use. By comparing electricity usage from January-February 2025 to the previous year, the mission aims to incentivize participants to lower their energy consumption through cash prizes for the highest reductions​

Cycle Rally

A daily cycling event, covering different routes throughout the city over 100 days, with a goal of promoting alternative transportation and reducing reliance on motorized vehicles​.

Climate Choupals

Evening community discussions where stakeholders, including politicians, press, policymakers, professors, and citizens, can engage in dialogue on climate issues. This informal setup encourages the sharing of ideas and strengthens community commitment to climate action.

Climate Talks and Yatra Bus Demonstrations

Led by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, these talks are organized in various organization. The Energy Swaraj Yatra bus, a mobile solar-powered home, serves as a live demonstration of sustainable living.

Daily Act Climate Correction - Just Skip It

In order to bring behavior change, the Foundation has designed 7 activities for 7 days of the week, Monday to Sunday. Each activity asks citizens to skip doing something that saves either energy or material. These activities on Skipped over good time become the habits of day to day living.
