Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) is a not-for-profit organization committed to addressing the challenge of climate change, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Founded on the principles articulated by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, ESF aims to empower 1 billion people by forging partnerships with organizations, institutions, and government bodies worldwide. Our overarching goal is to combat climate change and promote sustainability.
Environmental degradation and climate change is everyone's problem, Contributed by everyone, & Affecting everyone, therefore Everyone needs to be part of the solution
Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki - Founder, ESF
If you don't say AMG (Avoid-Minimize-Generate) now, you will say OMG (Oh My God) later!
1/3rd energy requirements can be avoided
1/3rd energy requirements can be minimized
1/3rd energy requirements can be generated from renewable resources
Use of energy is the driver of our social as well as economic activities on the planet. The Energy Swaraj Foundation believes that excessive use of carbon based energy is the cause of environmental degradation and climate change, making human existence unsustainable.
Every individual; irrespective of gender, nationality, age, consumes energy and material and contributes to climate change, therefore every individual needs to be part of action for climate correction.
There are two fundamental laws (or boundary conditions) of human existence or sustainable living on this planet:
“In an ecosystem of finite resources there has to be finite consumption” &
“In an ecosystem of finite resources there has to be distributed production”
Following the three step approach of AMG -Avoid, Minimize and Generate we can achieve localized energy independence for sustainable human existence.
Being a leading Voice in the action for climate correction, we aim to foster a global public movement by encouraging the adoption of Energy Swaraj.
Promoting broader perspectives of energy generation, consumption and its impact on the environment.
Driving impactful awareness and encouraging action for climate correction
Creating a network of action nodes by establishing Energy Swaraj chapters and clubs within India and globally.
Providing translational tools like Energy Literacy Training, Climate Correction Day, Ek Kamra Solar Ka, Reduce Energy Consumption, practical training, technical knowledge, Energy Swaraj Yatra, etc.
Making grid-free, 100% solar powered living aspirational
Make Energy Swaraj a way of Life
The planet Earth is an ecosystem of finite resources hence consumption should also be limited. Moreover, generating and fulfilling energy needs locally involving local people brings in Energy Swaraj. Mahatma Gandhi very beautifully summarized the laws of nature through his quotes “The world has enough for everyone’s need but enough for anyone’s greed” which indicates “limiting consumption” and another quote “...not the mass production of, but production by masses is required” which indicates “distributed production”. Everything that is part of nature is self-limiting and localized.
The philosophy of the Energy Swaraj Foundation is based on scientific understanding and practical learnings through its seed project SoULS (Solar Urja through Localization for Sustainability) of IIT Bombay through which involved locals in assembly, sale, repair and in some cases manufacturing. Through SoULS we reached out to over 8 Million families by training 9000 local women, demonstrating the success of the idea of Energy Swaraj - “Energy by Locals for Locals”. This initiative has won the IEEE’s global grand prize of USD 100,000 for the Empowering Billion Lives competition, CSIR Award, Prime Minister's Innovation award (to the SoULS in a district) and many others. The IEEE award money was fully donated to form the Energy Swaraj Foundation.
Mahatma Gandhi launched his activities towards India’s Swaraj from Sabarmati Ashram including Dandi March. To take the motto of Energy Swaraj to all - Energy Swaraj Foundation was launched on 15th August 2019 from GandhiJi’s Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat. Hon. Padma Bhushan Dr. Anil Kakodkar was the chief guest of the event.
